Analytical Instruments Group – Materials & Structural Analysis Division

Our Thermo Scientific brand in the analytical instruments group offers customers in research, academic, industrial and applied markets a complete range of high-end analytical instruments as well as laboratory equipment, software and services. In the materials and structural analysis division we design, manu­facture, and support the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. Combining hardware and software expertise in electron, ion, FTIR, NIR, NMR UV/VIS and light microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sci­ences, electronics, and natural resources markets. Our laboratory elemental analyzers use x-ray fluoresce (XRD), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and arc spark optical emission (EOS) techniques for precise analysis of bulk materials in the metals, cement, minerals and petrochemicals industries. Position Summary

The Sourcing Account Manager is responsible for managing assigned supplier relationships within the Thermo Fisher Materials & Structural Analysis Division (“MSD”), for defining sourcing strategies of assigned (sub) commodities with coaching of Commodity Manager, and participates in the early phase of the New Product Introduction cycle. The Scope of the commodity covers approx. 80 milj USD and reports directly into our Commodity manager. The role has a strong focus on NPI. The work environment can be described as international, creative, flexible and agile.

Supplier Account Manager

The role will contain the following key elements:

  • Manage and improve existing global supplier relations focused on Quality, Logistics, Cost and Innovation
  • Contributes to / defines sourcing strategy for (sub) commodities
  • Agrees, deploys and implements the defined commodity strategy with all stakeholders
  • Negotiates global contracts & agreements with assigned suppliers for total MSD and on behalf of Thermo Fisher Scientific
  • Prepares and executes annual negotiations on commercial conditions
  • Manages escalations regarding delivery, quality and overall performance issues
  • Delivers on CoGS reduction initiatives
  • Ensures relevant Supply-Market knowledge (outside in view)
  • Ensures supply continuity by screening /assessing assigned suppliers (and implement risk management
  • Runs risk management programs with assigned suppliers
  • Supports and contributes to the global sourcing strategy of Thermo Fisher Scientific
  • Builds and actively maintains relationships with sourcing colleagues in other Thermo Fisher sites as well as other departments (R&D, Product Engineering), which includes setting-up and leading Supplier Account Teams.

Sourcing Project Leader

  • The Sourcing project leader will participate in NPI project teams in an early stage to ensure that supply chain decisions are in line with the sourcing strategy and assures timely sourcing contribution to PMP milestone gates (including plans to achieve project target costs), the sourcing project leader is responsible to:
  • Initiate and steer supplier selection processes for projects
  • Ensure that the PMP deliverables are met and deviations/risks identified and addressed
  • Have a supply chain map at the start of the project and updated at every gate, incl. tooling/testing requirements
  • Work together with F&A and project leader to have a CoGS monitor in place and updated
  • Ensure with logistics that all materials will be ordered in line with project timeline and – where necessary – ensures risk buys are executed
  • Initiate ramp-up planning with supplier
  • Contribute to value chain optimization
  • Coordinates with buyers across other commodities and divisions where needed

The Requirements

This position requires a person that has a proven track record of being able to work in a complex and fast changing environment, is used to work with large scope and being able to set priorities. Ideally has a background in Sourcing or Supply Chain roles, preferably in a High Tech Systems environment with high diversity and low volumes. The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

  • Preferred University degree (Mechanics/Electronics/Business/Industrial Engineering) or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills
  • Preferably trained in specialized Purchasing skills (NEVI/Purspective)
  • Analytical / systematic, practical approach
  • Typically requires approximately 10 years of experience of which at least 5 years in the field of purchasing and with innovation (NPI) process
  • Good communication skills (reporting, interpersonal)
  • Excellent English language skills (verbal and in writing)
  • MS Office skills
  • Ability to handle stress in a dynamic work environment
  • Is self-propelling
  • Willing to travel (25%) between Thermo Fisher Scientific sites and suppliers worldwide.
