Improve our operational processes by managing our local transport planning and vessel & terminal operations, and build close relationships with suppliers, customers and local partners. Are you up for the challenge?

As an Operations Manager, what will be your main responsibilities?

It is up to you to manage a team of logistics professionals located in Oslo, Ålesund and Stavanger. You will communicate on a daily basis with suppliers, customers and local partners, and are the go-to-person within Samskip. You will focus on customer satisfaction, supplier performance, operational excellence and team efficiency.

Your goal will be to optimise the:

  • handling of administrative routines within set deadlines;
  • turnaround time for empty equipment according to our goals;
  • occurred storage costs versus invoiced storage costs;
  • number of customs clearances per day and week;
  • costs of manpower versus the estimated budget.

What will be your biggest challenge?

Our door-to-door supply chain involves many stakeholders, software and hardware that all require full attention at all times. Every piece in this supply chain is dynamic; you can expect the unexpected. Therefore, we need someone who is going to be on top of it, to make the uncontrollable controllable.

What your day-to-day job looks like as an Operations Manager

  • Lead and motivate teams to deliver operational excellence and excellent customer experiences.
  • Act as the vocal point for our customers, creating a close relationship with them to manage their expectations.
  • Manage suppliers, including hauliers, terminals and depots, by measuring their performance based on KPIs, negotiating contracts and working together with Finance to ensure the financial administration.
  • Work closely together with local operational departments to explore opportunities and contribute to the growth of our Norwegian trades.

What is the key to your success?

As an Operations Manager, you have to think in a different way: you view problems as opportunities and are able to come up with creative solutions. To deliver beyond expectations every single day, you have to coach and motivate your colleagues. We need someone who is confident, has good work ethics and knows how to communicate with different parties. Verbal and written fluency in Norwegian and English is preferred, since you will be executing your job in an international environment, in which many cultures are represented.

Your experience and educational requirements:

  • A bachelor degree in shipping management, maritime management or another similar logistic degree
  • At least 5 years of experience as a manager in the logistics industry, preferably within the multimodal, maritime or transport sector
  • Experience with MS Office software
