This is the role

We have 2 open positions which we recruit for. As the Buyer Marine Freight you are responsible to procure export container transport and freight forwarding service agreements for all LyondellBasell businesses according to defined procurement strategies and internal policies. You coordinate LyondellBasell’s global ocean freight RFQ process, negotiate and complete contracts with shipping lines and forwarders, monitors performance with set KPIs and benchmarks the business.

You will set up and maintain company’s purchasing strategies in container freight and freight forwarding sourcing. The role includes to develop global sustainability strategy for container transport.

In this role, you also monitor complex export processes and intiate cross departmental process improvements when ever such an opportunity arises. These improvements will ensure smooth export operations with optimal cost and enhance our customer service. Furthermore you will support the Associate Buyers by monitoring air freight market and setting up procurement strategy for air cargo freight sourcing.

Responsibilities & accountabilities:

  • Procure, negotiate and manage ocean transport contracts and related services according to company’s strategies and internal policies;
  • Coordinate annual global container freight RFQ and present results to internal stakeholders;
  • Set up regular performance review meetings with carriers and freight forwarders and evaluate their performance with agreed KPI scorecards;
  • Manage agreed benchmark initiatives. Continuously collect market information and report it to internal stakeholders;
  • Initate and maintain detailed freight forwarding procedures and have them documented;
  • Support Associate Buyer in operational trouble shooting, quality complaint investigation and spot freight procurement.

This is what you bring

  • Master degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration;
  • Advanced excel and power point skills are essential;
  • Min 4 years working experience in the container shipping or freight forwarding industry or in an equivalent commercial position;
  • Fluent in English. Being fluent in Dutch, German, French, Italian or Spanish language will be a bonus.
